The Outreach Committee is a group of volunteers that collaborates with members of the church to expand awareness and outreach to all our members. The committee identifies opportunities to positively represent the church’s purpose and mission to increase the engagement of our members with different program initiatives. In addition, the committee assists by suggesting areas the church can utilize its outreach funds.
St. Lukes in partnership with Christ Episcopal Church Rochdale and Ascentria Care Alliance’s Service for New Americans Program have created a Neighborhood Support Team (NST).
NSTs work alongside Ascentria case managers to help refugee families and individuals access resources, recover and heal, and build self-sufficient lives here in the U.S. NSTs are formed when a community decides that they want to make the commitment to sponsor an individual or family by providing supports for up to one year. St Lukes and Christ Church have made such a commitment to help refugee families.
Our Neighborhood Support Teams will help with the following tasks in the coming months as a refugee family rebuilds their lives here in the U.S.:
· Helping locate and setup short and long-term housing
· Welcoming and helping introduce new arrivals to the community
· Assisting with education enrollment and support
· Fundraising to ease financial burdens while people get settled
· Assisting individuals in their search for employment
· Helping people access and navigate the U.S. healthcare system
· Helping locate additional resources and benefits
· Coordinating with Ascentria case managers
You will be helping families and individuals who fled conflict, discrimination, and political persecution rebuild their lives. There are many different tasks all can involved with. Some are simple and of a short term nature and some involve more attention.
All are welcome to help us in this ministry!
St Lukes help with Ascentria’s Unaccompanied Refugee Minors (URM) program providing holiday gifts to refugee and immigrant youth that have come to the United States seeking safety without a parent or guardian to care for them. This is a program we have successful done over a number of years, helping over 200 kids. We run this program every November and December.
Worcester County Food Bank (WCFB) is one of three Feeding America member food banks in Massachusetts. They are dedicated to engaging, educating, and leading Worcester County in creating a hunger-free community. St Lukes has been supplying food and funds to the food bank for a number of years. Goods can be dropped off at the church and it will be transferred directly to the food bank.
